Environmental Health Specialists are responsible for conducting drug licensing investigations; label review, sampling and inspection of drug and cosmetic manufacturing plants; inspection of dairies and milk processing plants; certification of septic systems; inspection of food warehouses, traditional food and drink establishments, health facilities, public institutions and other related facilities to ensure compliance with State laws and regulations.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position will conduct inspections of dairy farms, milk plants, single service plants, bulk milk tank trucks, cheese plants and ice cream manufacturing plants and meat & poultry processing facilities for compliance with federal and state health and safety standards; testing pasteurization equipment; evaluate the handling practices of pasteurizer operators, bulk milk haulers and milk samplers; collect dairy farm and milk plant samples, address public health and safety concerns and/or investigations in an assigned area within Nevada relating to dairy products and facilities. The incumbent must be able to lift 75 pounds. This job involves 50% travel time. Please ensure your application includes your current license information as an Environmental Health Specialist. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Licensure as an Environmental Health Specialist and three years of experience performing professional environmental health duties for a regulatory environmental health agency; OR two years of experience as an Environmental Health Specialist II in Nevada State service.
Special Notes
Any person licensed as an Environmental Health Specialist in another state or by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) must obtain and maintain certification of registration by the Nevada State Board within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
