The Position
Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.
We are excited to announce that the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services is recruiting for an Accounting Assistant 3 with the Accounting Unit located in Carson City. This position will serve as the team lead for other Accounting Assistants in the unit. You will perform a variety of clerical accounting work; assign account coding for payments in accordance with complex rules, regulations, or program requirements; maintain records; post payments and track balances in various spreadsheets; and prepare financial documents using Excel. The incumbent will also compare expenditure documents with supporting documentation and enter transactions into the State financial system. Another primary responsibility will be to research and resolve problems with vendor payments and other accounting issues, review and reconcile work done by others and provide technical assistance to staff to resolve problems including reviewing and correcting errors. Qualified candidates should possess the ability to interpret and explain complex policy or procedures to a variety of constituents. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE PRIOR TO THE POSTED CLOSING DATE DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience which included duties such as responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and/or other accounting data; setting up computer spreadsheets to record, track, organize and report data; researching and interpreting financial data to prepare reports and respond to budget and accounts related inquiries; and reconciling accounts; OR one year of experience as an Accounting Assistant II in Nevada State service which included clerical accounting duties as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
