The Position
Maintenance Repair Workers perform semi-skilled work in the building and mechanical trades to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, facilities and equipment. 
The incumbent will perform the following duties: 1) basic plumbing work in order to maintain, repair and modify plumbing systems and fixtures; install and repair valves and fixtures and open clogged drains; 2) basic carpentry work to maintain, repair and modify facilities and fixtures; install and repair locks, make keys, install venetian blinds, etc.; may construct special use features or objects; 3) basic and interior painting work such as taping, texturing and patching sheetrock and masonry surfaces, setting up ladders and scaffolding, etc.; 4) basic electrical work, including installing new parts in defective equipment, replacing ballasts on 120, 277 and 480 volt fixtures, adjusting and cleaning electronic controls; 4) basic equipment maintenance and repair work, including tuning and adjusting equipment and/or vehicles, preventive maintenance, replacing worn or damage parts, etc.; 5) basic welding and machine work such as shaping, joining and installing ductwork; constructing racks for storage; welding gates; repairing tools and equipment, etc. 6) must be willing and able to assist HVAC mechanic, maintenance repair specialist, custodial, grounds maintenance and other trades when directed by supervisor. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Two years of building, grounds and equipment maintenance experience in performing semi-skilled building/grounds and equipment maintenance work; OR one year of experience as a Maintenance Repair Worker I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A valid Class C Nevada driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Must be able to detect odors or smells as the incumbent will be working in areas where detection of odors indicating gas leaks or shorts in electrical wiring is critical for safety.
    Must be able to work at elevated levels (e.g., on a roof, ladder, man lift, scaffolding, etc.) as repairs and preventive maintenance is done in every area of facility.
    Must be able and willing to wear safety equipment (e.g., safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, etc.) Working safely is an essential function.
    Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors. The incumbent Will be working on complex electrical control systems where differentiation between wire coloring and shades of coloring is critical for safety.
    Must be able to read, write and understand English to communicate with supervisor and crew, understand work assignments, work safely with the crew in dangerous situations, and read warning labels.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
