The Position
Custodial Workers perform general cleaning services to State facilities using various cleaning equipment and materials to provide a safe, hygienic and orderly work environment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This is a full-time permanent position within the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Division of Museums & History, Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City. The incumbent will work within a museum environment and is primarily responsible to provide a clean, safe and inviting atmosphere. The custodial worker ensures that the visitor experience is exceptional through the careful application of cleanliness and order. The custodian must be a self-starter and work under general supervision. The incumbent must clean and/or sanitize offices restrooms, shower, depot, exhibits and other facilities. The custodial worker is often the first point of contact in crisis and must provide a safe and correct response in the event of emergency. The custodial worker must have skills in minor maintenance and emergency repairs of leaking faucets, plugged drains and faulty toilets and be able to perform minor repairs to walls including patching and painting. The incumbent will operate a variety of equipment. The position supports the greater museum mission by setting up and breaking down special events, moving artifacts, assists in exhibit maintenance, and assists the groundskeeper. Work days are Thursday through Monday, 6am to 2:30pm. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, industrial, hospital, governmental or similar environment; OR six months of general work experience and one year of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, industrial, hospital, governmental or similar environment; OR six months of experience as a Custodial Worker I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
