Wildlife Area Technicians may be assigned to work at a wildlife management area, on a water development
crew or as a regional utility person. Typical duties involve the maintenance of wildlife habitat by operating
light and heavy equipment, controlling water levels in wetland areas, managing vegetation and related activities intended to develop and enhance an environment which will support the State's wildlife species.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is the senior member of a two-person Water Development crew that performs a wide range of necessary water development (or guzzler) related inspection, maintenance, repair and construction duties. The position also ensures that all vehicles and equipment used on projects remain in good operating condition and proper maintenance is done in accordance with appropriate operating manuals and ensures equipment is utilized in a safe and responsible manner. This position also helps implement other programs to achieve assigned habitat program objectives and supervises the other member of the guzzler crew. The Water Development Crew works for extended periods in locations that are a significant distance from the home base, which requires camping out in remote areas for an extended periods in locations that are a significant distance from the home base, inclusive of camping out in remote areas for up to eight days at a time. This position must also represent NDOW and interact with people of varied interests, including the many volunteers that assist the crew on guzzler construction and major rebuild projects.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years experience in maintenance, farming or construction, two of which included experience in maintaining lands for wildlife, managing water levels and manipulating water flow, maintaining and/or constructing equipment and facilities, and surveying wildlife by counting and taking inventory of species; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Wildlife Area Technician II in Nevada State service.

Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada commercial driver's license.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
Positions in this series are required to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement and air brake certification within six months of appointment.
