The Position
Weights and Measures Inspectors inspect all commercial weighing and measuring devices, enforce applicable regulations, and sample gasoline and diesel fuel for quality in order to protect the economic interests of consumers and merchants in the State.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position works for the Department of Agriculture, Division of Consumer Equability and is located in Elko, Nevada. Duties include checking the net content of packaged goods, price verification, regulation of method of advertising and sale of commodities, and responding to all documented complaints regarding applicable certified devices and advertised pricing. Weights and Measures Inspector 3's supervise fewer than three lower level Weights and Measures Inspectors in a designated geographic area, in addition to performing the full range of duties outlined in the series concept. Incumbents work under general supervision from a position which may be based at a different location. Incumbents will be required to travel up to 50% of the time and will be required to have a valid Nevada Driver License. Incumbents will be required to obtain a Nevada Commercial Driver's License within 12 months of appointment.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of technical experience in applying weights and measures regulations; OR two years of experience as a Weights and Measures Inspector II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Some positions in this series must operate a diesel truck and trailer. Incumbents in those positions must obtain a Nevada Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within one year of appointment and maintain a current CDL for continuing employment
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, some positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
The Examination
WEIGHTS AND MEASURES INSPECTOR 3
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

3) Describe your experience, including the number of years, training staff members.
4) Describe your experience, including the number of years, working with metering systems and tolerances to enable the correct analysis of their operation. Include your experience with test measures and provers.
5) Do you hold any professional certifications issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM)? If so, please identify which ones and if they are current.
