The Position
Compliance Investigators perform investigations regarding violations of federal and/or State laws or regulations pertaining to a specific State program or regulatory area such as public assistance, real estate, insurance, employment discrimination or sexual harassment. The investigative process is initiated following a formal complaint or suspected violation utilizing standard investigative techniques. Incumbents are not sworn peace officers, and enforcement actions are limited to the specific program or regulatory area and involve informal resolution and/or recommendations for administrative sanctions or penalties which are imposed by a higher authority.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
Compliance Investigators are responsible for performing investigatons regarding possible violations of State laws or regulations pertaining to the Commercial Recordings and Elections Divisions of the Office of the Nevada Secretary of State. Investigators will receive and review formal and informal complaints, conduct interviews utilizing standard ivestigative techniques to gather evidence which substatiates or refutes a claim, develop and maintain case logs, prepare comprehensive investigative reports, coordinate potential resolution of violations or complaints in accordance with statutory provisions, and provide testimony in any administrative hearing or in a court of competent jurisdiction. Incumbents will develop and conduct training for internal staff, state and local agencies, business owners and employers, and the general public. Travel related to inspections and investigations expected up to 25% of the time.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, political science, psychology, social work, business administration or closely related field; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience where standard investigative techniques were utilized to make program compliance determinations and prepare detailed reports for the purpose of justifying administrative sanctions, penalties or criminal prosecution. Work experience may be obtained in law enforcement, investigative, regulatory or compliance setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    Travel up to 25%.
