Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) is seeking qualified applicants for an Environmental Scientist 3 position. The position will be required to manage the Environmental Assistance Program within NDEP's Bureau of Corrective Actions, which provides technical support and assistance to other State, Federal, and local agencies and first responders during statewide incidents involving chemical releases to the environment. This position develops and updates internal and external documents that support communication and coordination during an emergency response. This position will manage the 24-hour Spill Hotline and recruit and train approximately 12 people rotating as duty officers and environmental assistance coordinators. Management of this program includes coordinating with the Nevada Division of Emergency Management, Local Emergency Planning Committees, EPA, etc. This may entail working a non-traditional work schedule or at another duty station during an incident. The incumbent may be required to participate in a medical monitoring program.
This position will also support the Carson River Mercury Superfund Site project, other superfund related projects, and case work involving soil and groundwater investigations and remediation oversight. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research, planning, and technical support; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position has a 25% travel requirement. |
|
