Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located within the Department of Agriculture, Plant Industry Division, Environmental Services in Sparks, NV. The Environmental Scientist 4 acts as the program manager for the Environmental Services Program within the Plant Industry Division which includes supervision of the Environmental Scientist 2 and Agriculturalist 3. This position is responsible for working with Environmental Protection Agency on cooperative projects while maintaining both state and federal work programs and budgets. The incumbent must maintain the Restricted Use Pesticide certification program by educating and training the industry and acts as the lead for assigning investigations, responding to verified complaints, and coordinating enforcement actions. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and four years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research, planning, and technical support; OR eighteen months of experience as an Environmental Scientist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
