The Position
GIS Analysts are responsible for designing, implementing, supporting and administering all aspects of a department's and/or division's enterprise geographic information system.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position is located within the Information Technology Division of the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), Carson City, NV. The incumbent will actively promote NDOT's GIS data governance model. Ongoing duties include process diagraming, procedure documentation, and design of testing workflows to support implementation of new products or error troubleshooting. In addition to working with 20+ GIS Data Stewards and 400+ GIS Users, the incumbent will work closely with other IT Division teams including Desktop Support, Server, Network, Application Development, Database Administration, and Project Management. ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop 10.5.1 and ArcGIS Pro 2.1.2 are the standard desktop client software used for NDOT GIS efforts.
As a member of NDOT GIS team within the IT Division, the incumbent will perform operational support tasks such as: maintenance of enterprise geodatabases; technical support for GIS Desktop software; administration of Web GIS; trouble-shooting legacy mapping applications; automating maintenance tasks with scripts. The incumbent will provide direct assistance to NDOT's division by Publishing and monitoring web services; serving as a subject matter expert on GIS best practices; escalating user support issues where appropriate. In a continuing effort to keep up with GIS technology, the incumbent will attend GIS training and conferences as NDOT resources allow. While experience with ArcGIS Server is preferred, the IT GIS team is seeking applicants who are curious to learn the IT side of GIS enterprise service management. Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. Nevada Department of Transportation is committed to Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action in recruitment of its employees and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion or belief, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, genetic information (GINA), or gender identity and expression.
