The Position
The Nevada Department of Veterans Services is recruiting for an Education & Information Officer, Outreach Coordinator geographically located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Outreach Coordinator creates and coordinates community outreach opportunities that increase awareness and support of veterans' services and programs. The incumbent develops and maintains partnerships with veteran's organizations, public officials, businesses, universities and colleges, non-profit and community organizations; develops, generates and analyzes needs assessments, surveys and evaluations to determine community needs; plans, organizes, coordinates and publicizes special events; engages and facilitates communication with public officials and community members at all levels; manages the development, distribution, and maintenance of print and electronic educational material including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, and information on the agency website; researches and writes articles, press releases, speeches, and presentations to inform the public of state-wide veteran and military activities and attends meetings; manages special veterans programs to include veterans' employment, education, and housing initiatives; develops and maintains community outreach records, databases and reports; tracks and responds to inquiries from the public, media and various agencies and groups; and other related duties as assigned.
Applicants with the following attributes are encouraged to apply: exceptional planning skills, strong writing and oral presentation skills, experience developing and presenting reports, experience in facilitating public meetings and other public forums, ability to work independently and as part of a team, ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities and projects, ability to provide written, detailed reports regarding all outreach activities throughout the state, and excellent interpersonal skills. The work schedule is a variable workweek and may include occasional evenings and weekends based upon programming needs. Travel up to 50% may be required. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an area of specialization relevant to the agency to which assigned and two years of professional experience which included responsibilities for researching, writing, instructing, and presenting informational and educational material; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    This position may require some evening and weekend work.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
