The Position
Librarians are typically assigned to the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) Division and perform a broad range of professional level duties in support of a library that organizes and provides access to a wide selection of materials in a variety of formats. Incumbents perform administrative work in planning, coordinating and directing activities within one or more functional areas of the library including, but not limited to, acquisitions; cataloging; reference; circulation; collection maintenance; serials; document delivery/interlibrary loan; government documents; library services for the blind and physically disabled; and/or statewide library development.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. Department of Administration's Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) is recruiting for two Librarian 3 positions located in Carson City, NV. These positions require focus on helping Nevada libraries achieve their full potential. Through key skills and abilities, successful candidates will address different issues and challenges faced in public, academic, school and special libraries. Issues range from integrating digital archiving tools into library operations, to the use of social media for promoting the library, to deploying out-of-school time programs that meaningfully link to classrooms, and much more! These positions understand the role of the library as an extension of teaching, learning and research activities found in school, business and community enterprise. The successful candidates know that when library resources are added to institutions, organizations and individual pursuits, success follows.
The consultants report to the Assistant Administrator of the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) and are responsible for the leadership, management and evaluation of statewide library services from federal and state support and engagement. Ability to build relationships, strong project management know-how, great attention to fiscal details, data tracking, ability to roll up sleeves and set boots on the ground and comfort and agility with rural and urban library environments is a must. Strong technical skills and ease in digital environments, an encouraging personality, willingness to smile and a can-do attitude will combine to make the perfect candidate. As Nevadans are increasingly prepared for a life of intellectual inquiry and responsible citizenry through their library, the NSLAPR Librarian IIIs will know their efforts matter. The successful candidates must be able to serve as an administrator-teacher and as a passionate advocate for the use of library's resources. This position will require up to 25% travel.
