The Position
Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This is an underfill for a Correctional Nurse 2 position. The Correctional Nurse I works under the supervision of the Correctional Nurse III and will consult with them on a regular basis. The incumbent will communicate plans with team members by attending nursing meetings and sharing with other team members; assist with team responsibilities and assignments as necessary; use patient problems to plan patient care addressing chief presenting problems incorporating the plan of nursing care into the multidisciplinary treatment plan; collect/document the medical/mental health conditions of patients using appropriate charting protocols; complete health assessments; collect statistical date, tracking current outpatient medications and patient outcome; and review inmates to determine need for referrals or assessment. The position will be working directly with inmates to carry out nursing care assignments, promote optimal health and patient independence, document problems requiring nursing interventions, document patient teaching needs and discharge planning, and communicate care plans to other nurses to maintain continuity of care.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
License as a Registered Nurse and one year of professional nursing experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Probationary employees must successfully complete "pre-service" training (PST) provided by the department.
As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
