Developmental Specialists provide individual and group clinical, developmental and support services for individuals of all ages who have, or who may be at risk for, developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions, and social, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

This recruitment is to fill multiple vacancies within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of the Department of Health and Human Services - Early Intervention Services in Carson City, NV as they occur. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers, and provides a positive working environment.
The incumbent will be under-filling a Developmental Specialist 3 position and will be auto-progressed to the next level in the series upon meeting the minimum qualifications and upon Appointing Authority approval. This position provides home-based instruction and case management/service coordination to children under the age of three with disabilities under the Part C federal regulations of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The incumbent also serves on multi-disciplinary teams to determine program eligibility and services. Those selected for a Developmental Specialist position will be required to obtain an Endorsement License in Early Childhood Special Education at their own cost. Experience working with children birth to three years old with developmental delays and families is a requirement of this position. This position will require up to 50% travel within the service delivery area of the Northeast region of Nevada (Lyon, Mineral, Douglas, Storey and Churchill counties).

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or closely related field and one year of paraprofessional experience providing developmental, special education, or intervention or treatment-oriented services for individuals who have or may be at risk for developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or related conditions; OR an equivalent combination of education at or above a bachelor's degree and experience as described above. |

Incumbents must possess or obtain an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education issued by the Nevada Department of Education or a comparable certification issued by the Nevada Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C office within three years of appointment to this series or a comparable certification. (This license requirement applies only to those positions directly involved with children from birth to eight years of age with developmental delays.) |
