Corrections Counselors within in the Nevada Department of Corrections provide mental health services to offenders in a correctional setting including interviews, behavioral planning and implementation, consultation, psycho-educational classes, research, and training.
This position is located at Northern Nevada Correctional Center (NNCC), in Carson City, Nevada. The incumbent monitors psychological services provided by mental health staff to ensure quality care; audits mental health and correctional programs; determines training needs of mental health and program staff; oversees the programming and mental health treatment operations of clinical staff, ensuring that all subordinate staff provide constitutional care of inmates; implements best practices programming methodologies; and develops, implements and monitors performance measures.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in clinical psychology, counseling, education, social work, or closely related field and four years of post-doctoral experience providing therapy, psychological testing and rehabilitative programs to clients or inmates in a correctional, rehabilitative, clinic or institutional setting, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR a Doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in clinical psychology from an accredited school of professional psychology and four years of experience as described above.

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.

The Examination
PSYCHOLOGIST IV
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. 4) Describe your experience, including the number of years, in the administration and delivery of psychological programmatic services, to include planning, organizing, delegating, overseeing and evaluating the work of doctoral level and other professional staff and support personnel.
5) Describe your experience addressing advocacy issues regarding mental illness, developmental disabilities, co-occurring disorders, and substance abuse.
6) Describe your experience collecting, analyzing and utilizing data in administrative accountability and evaluation studies.
7) Describe your experience preparing and administering a departmental budget by correlating the available fiscal resources with agency needs for equipment, personnel and training, and program implementation.
