Corrections Counselors within in the Nevada Department of Corrections provide mental health services to offenders in a correctional setting including interviews, behavioral planning and implementation, consultation, psycho-educational classes, research, and training.
This position is locate at Northern Nevada Correctional Center (NNCC), in Carson City, Nevada.
The incumbent will develop, implement, manage and supervise specialized programs, which include mental health units, structured care units, extended care units, and other special needs units and programs. The incumbent will assess staff development and training needs; prepare performance evaluations; counsel employees in work related issues; evaluate inmate's mental health status and behavior for diagnoses, clinical needs and make referral, if needed; evaluate and respond to all emergency health crisis requests; provide individual and group treatment to inmate(s) with Constitutional level of care diagnoses; provide discharge planning for Constitutional level of care inmate; consult with staff members regarding inmate treatment and related issues; and complete required Parole Board reports on inmates.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in clinical psychology, counseling, education, social work, or closely related field and three years of post-doctoral experience providing therapy, psychological testing and programmatic services in a correctional, rehabilitative, clinic or institutional setting; OR a Doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in clinical psychology from an accredited school of professional psychology, and three years of experience as described above. |
