The Position
Game Wardens protect the wildlife and fisheries resources of the State and the public by enforcing wildlife, boating and natural resource laws and by providing education in areas such as wildlife management, and hunter, boating and firearms safety.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
Game Wardens patrol more than 110,567 square miles of Nevada, responding to boat accidents, search and rescue operations and general public safety as needed. An average patrol area is 3,567 square miles, with Wardens in remote areas patrolling up to 10,000 square miles. Communication skills, both verbal and written, are highly desirable. Game Wardens must be able to work any hours, days, or shifts, including holidays and weekends. Training must be maintained and current. Applicants must meet current POST (Peace Officers' Standards and Training) Category 1 requirements, as outlined in NRS 289 and NAC 289. Per NAC 289, applicants must be a citizen of the United States and must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment. Game Wardens are required to be POST Category 1 certified in Nevada. Game Warden Officers are provided with all firearms, duty gear, uniforms, and a take-home patrol vehicle at no expense to the employee. The positions available are for Game Warden 3 (Grade 37), but are being recruited for Game Warden levels 1 & 2 (Grade 32 & 35). Upon completion of training and approval, Game Wardens will progress to the next level in the series, up to Game Warden 3. The positions may be filled at any level, and applicants are encouraged to carefully read the requirements and apply for the level that best fits their education and experience. Physical Agility Testing will take place in late August or early September. Applicants will be notified of their assigned testing location at the time of the RSVP notification which will be sent by email.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology, criminal justice or closely related field; OR two years of professional experience in enforcing or investigating suspected violations of wildlife, criminal or boating safety laws; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Candidates hired in this series must acquire peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) certification in Nevada.
Special Requirements
    Candidates must successfully pass a background investigation prior to being considered for appointment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    For insurance purposes and home storage of state vehicles, employee must reside in the State of Nevada at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Successful completion of a medical examination; physical agility test; psychological test and evaluation, which will include polygraph testing; and a background investigation are required at the time of appointment.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this class series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this series must first submit to a pre-employment screening test for controlled substances.
Additional Position Criteria
    A physical agility test is required to proceed forward in the selection process. The test includes a 100 yard continuous swim in 5 minutes or less; dragging a 75 pound sandbag 50 feet and lifting it into a truck; operating the emergency knobs and switches of the patrol vehicle while maintaining control of the vehicle; holding a handgun at arms' length with both hands for 5 seconds and dry firing six times in 5 seconds without touching the side of a 4 inch circle; a 1.5 mile run in 17 minutes and 17 seconds or less.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

3) Physical conditions may require maintaining physical fitness necessary to carry out the job functions such as dexterity to write and shoot a gun, running, climbing, standing, squatting drag, carry and lift objects. Would you be able to meet this?
