Librarians are typically assigned to the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) Division and perform a broad range of professional level duties in support of a library that organizes and provides access to a wide selection of materials in a variety of formats. Incumbents perform administrative work in planning, coordinating and directing activities within one or more functional areas of the library including, but not limited to, acquisitions; cataloging; reference; circulation; collection maintenance; serials; document delivery/interlibrary loan; government documents; library services for the blind and physically disabled; and/or statewide library development.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Librarian 3 works within the Department of Administration's Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR), located in Carson City, NV. Under the direction of the Senior Library Program Officer, incumbents perform all or part of the duties described in the series concept; provide specialized expertise and services with scope and impact beyond the agency; perform complex, technical or specialized duties in subunits or sections of the division, and manage special library services, or programs to meet specific needs such as the state publications distribution center. The position also acts as depository contact person for the Library with GPO and State agencies. Also ensures required records are maintained; prepares reports required by the Depository program; keeps current with policies and issues; assesses holdings, print retention and online access to materials.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Master's degree in a program accredited by the American Library Association and two years of professional library experience which included a combination of at least three of the following: original cataloging/metadata, reference, e-resources, social media, managing government publications and/or assisting in collection development; OR one year of experience as a Librarian II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
