The Position
Chief Insurance Examiners plan, organize, direct and review new insurance products and programs to ensure that policies, rules, forms, business practices and operations comply with State laws and regulations, agency policies and procedures, and accepted industry standards.
Under administrative direction, Chief Insurance Examiners plan, organize, direct and review new insurance products and programs to ensure that policies, rules, forms, business practices and operations comply with State laws and regulations, agency policies and procedures, and accepted industry standards. incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position is located in the Carson City office of the Division of Insurance. Along with general supervision of the Life and Health (L&H) Insurance team, this position is responsible for the oversight of the federally funded Premium Review Program, responds to consumers, industry representatives and other interested parties regarding life and health insurance issues, review and ensure compliance with rules, regulations and statutes, review and examine policies, forms, rates, rating and underwriting rules and agency contracts, and ensure L&H staff complete all rate filings in a timely and accurate manner. This position has a travel requirement of up to 25%. Certification as a Certified Financial Examiner (CFE), Associate Financial Examiner (AFE), or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, finance or related field, and four years of supervisory and/or management level experience which involved 1) the audit or examination of insurance companies and their operations; 2) the examination and/or analysis of insurance companies' products and programs that required the application of statutes, regulations and rules to determine the solvency and tax structure of insurance companies; or 3) determination of the appropriateness and soundness of insurance companies' products and programs; OR two years of experience as an Insurance Examiner II or Insurance Actuarial Analyst II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
