The Position
Public Service Interns receive training and complete a variety of assignments in staff activities directly relating to their major course of study while enrolled in an educational institution.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is recruiting for a Public Service Intern II to be located in Las Vegas, NV. A Public Service Intern can have many functions within the Division of Child and Family Services. This position is with the Early Childhood Mental Health Day Treatment Program and would be responsible for the creation, preparation, and daily administering of Day Treatment Curriculum. The daily curriculum focuses on different developmental foundations such as Fine and Gross Motor, Cognitive, social/emotional, and music and movement. The intern would run the daily groups and assist in dealing with behavioral and emotional struggles of the children. Each site has two interns who teach the curriculum in different classes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Each class is overseen by a coordinator who assists in this implementation. The Day Treatment is composed of children, ages 3 to 7 years old, who have experienced significant trauma in their life and have been determined to have a Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED). Applicants would work a minimum of 20.24 hours in the week and would be eligible for paid leave and health insurance.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS), together in partnership with families, communities and other governmental agencies, provides support and services to assist Nevada's children and families in reaching their full human potential. DCFS programs include child protective and welfare service delivery in rural Nevada and oversight of urban county-operated child protective and welfare services, children's mental/behavioral health treatment and residential services (outpatient and inpatient acute) in urban Nevada, and statewide juvenile justice services including state-operated youth training centers and youth parole. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree related to the field of employment and enrollment and continued successful performance in an academic graduate program related to the field of employment at an accredited college or university.
Special Notes
    Employment is not to exceed six months from the date of graduation.
    Employment in this class will not lead to permanent status in State service.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    Transcripts showing enrollment and continued successful performance in an academic graduate program related to the field of employment, such as special education, psychology, etc. at an accredited college or university are required.
