Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.
This position works within the Department of Administration's Enterprise IT Services (EITS) Division, Mainframe/Operations unit in Carson City. Primary duties for the incumbent include monitoring IBM mainframe (z/OS) and UNIX batch production, modifying z/OS and UNIX job schedules, making basic code changes to jobs, along with using AFP and impact printers for output processing. The incumbent will also be responsible for monitoring all equipment housed within the EITS Computer Facility and notifying EITS Mainframe, UNIX, Network, and Mechanical sections along with other State of Nevada agencies of software and hardware failures.**** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE PRIOR TO THE POSTED CLOSING DATE DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, two years of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
This position has a 25% travel requirement.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
Experience working as an operator in a Mainframe environment OR experience working with UNIX or LINUX commands is required.
