The Position
Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Under the supervision of an Information Technology (IT) Professional 3, the Information Technology (IT) Technician 5 position is responsible for the following: Install, configure, upgrade, repair, replace hardware and software on staff workstations; Establish new users, including network and server permissions, email accounts, printer connections, virtual private networks (VPN), etc.; maintaining Department IT help desk support by monitoring and resolving support requests; monitor and maintain physical and virtual server performance, including providing physical maintenance and upgrades, optimization, configuration, security, backup and recovery, and replacement; Install, configure, operate, maintain, and monitor wide area and local area network (WAN/LAN) hardware and software; Participate in infrastructure planning and improvement efforts, including researching hardware and software components for procurement, product evaluation, and purchase recommendations; provide introductory and ongoing workstation, server, and network training to Department staff; operating system and software licensing, patching, and updates; mobile device configuration and management; Equipment inventory control; and Implementing and complying with information security policies. This position works closely with the IT Professional 3 to make recommendations for improving IT infrastructure, policies, and procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are desired to support and train Department staff on the use of IT infrastructure. The position requires attention to detail and high levels of organization, as well as the ability to prioritize and accomplish diverse tasks in a timely and efficient manner. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE PRIOR TO THE POSTED CLOSING DATE DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of IT work experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of network workstation hardware and software; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician IV in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Some positions require an applicant to undergo a background investigation prior to appointment. These positions will be identified at the time of recruitment.
Special Requirements
    Statewide travel is required.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience with Dell computing hardware including Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC).
    Experience with Microsoft Windows 10 operating system installation, maintenance, and updates.
    Experience with Microsoft Office 365 local and cloud functionality.
    Experience with Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
