The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of Health and Human Services - Planning, Advocacy and Community Services Unit - in either Las Vegas, NV or Carson City, NV. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, and friendly co-workers, and promotes a positive work environment. The mission of the Aging and Disability Services Division is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible. The incumbent will oversee the administration of the ADSD Communication Access Services (CAS) Program, including interpretation of regulations and laws; developing, reviewing, and revising policies as they relate to the program; preparation of reports for federal and State entities and division/department management; developing and monitoring the program budget; and submitting the annual program budget application to the Public Utilities Commission. The CAS program includes the Relay Nevada Contract, Interpreter/Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) Registry, CAS Interpreting Services, and the Communication Access Service Centers Grant. This position will supervise one Social Services Program Specialist II and CAS Interpreters. Applicants who have an understanding of Deaf culture and are fluent in American Sign Language are encouraged to apply.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of professional social services, medical assistance programs services, or healthcare services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex documents such as federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
