Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.

The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) has career opportunities for a Mental Health Counselor to work in our Child Welfare system. The position is assigned to the Winnemucca office.
Staff provide in-home, family centered, intensive services including therapy/counseling, skill-building, supportive services, advocacy, clinical case management and mental health assessments (for children and adults) to complex, high risk children and families. Clinical Program staff within the Division provide diagnostic assessments and information to Child Welfare Workers for custody children needing Medicaid or a higher level of care; crisis intervention for Intensive Family Services (IFS) and non-IFS clients; placement disruption services; and case consultation services for other DCFS program staff.
IFS does not replicate existing services and is not considered a mental health program, but rather a clinical child welfare service program designed to intervene quickly with families where safety threats have been identified and removal of children is imminent without effective preventative services. IFS prioritizes efforts to enhance deficient caregiver protective capacities to mitigate safety factors. These are full time positions with an anticipated variable work schedule that is constructed to meet the schedule of individuals receiving services Mon-Fri with Sat/Sun off, that includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week.
