Water System Operators perform technical duties related to testing and treatment of ground and surface water, the operational duties associated with the collection and storage of ground and surface water, and the treatment and distribution of water.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is based out of the Western Region Headquarters Office for the Nevada Division of State Parks at Lahontan Dam, Fallon, Nevada. The incumbent performs the full range of operation, maintenance and repair of water treatment and distribution facilities, related structures, equipment and samples water to assure quality and compliance at ten independent public water systems throughout Northern Nevada including two water filtration plants. The position performs electrical and electronic maintenance and repair work on telemetry systems, SCADA systems and cathodic protection units and operates and maintains two sewer lift stations. The incumbent prepares and maintains a variety of computerized and written records, reports and logs.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a treatment or water distribution system; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
Some Water System Operator II positions are required to obtain certification as a Water Treatment Operator, grade 2 within 12 months of appointment.
All licenses, endorsements and certifications must be issued by the State of Nevada and must be maintained as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
A valid Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Working weekends may be required.
This position is subject to call-out or call-back.
Additional Position Criteria
Must possess minimum D1, T1 full water system operator certificates at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
The position requires lifting, carrying and handling objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Working underground and in confined spaces and climbing to the top of tall water storage tanks is required.
This position requires travel approximately 25% of the time to remote park locations throughout Northern Nevada with occasional overnight stays.
