The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Performs on-site project reviews on all phases of construction to assure quality construction methods and materials are used on highway construction projects; observe and assist in the calibration of asphalt and marinating plants;monitors and trains field personnel in materials testing and construction inspection; reviews specifications, project test reports and documentation for compliance and maintains related databases; and assists and provides expertise in trouble shooting construction related problems.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern, and two years of professional engineering experience in civil engineering or closely related engineering field; OR two years of experience as a Staff I, Associate Engineer or Supervisor I, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
Exam Type: Training and Experience Evaluation

The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) What is your experience in testing of materials used in highway construction?
2) Describe your experience in inspection of highway construction work.
3) What experience do you have in the calibration of asphalt and marinating plants?
4) Describe any experience you have in the use of databases, including development, or maintenance of existing database information.
