The Position
Parole & Probation Specialists perform technical duties in administrative functions and units, which do not require peace officer status. Duties include casework services, investigations, tracking and monitoring assigned parolees and probationers, pre-sentence investigations, determination of restitution and supervision fees, and referral services for the assigned unit. Positions in this series obtain and verify information; prepare and process case files and recommend appropriate action; and monitor offender activities. Incumbents are not Peace Officer's Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified and do not perform law enforcement functions such as conducting field inspections of offenders' worksite or residence, conducting surveillance, searches and arrests, or transporting prisoners to court or detention facilities.
The Division of Parole and Probation is recruiting for a re-entry specialist assigned to the Lovelock Correctional Center in Lovelock Nevada. The incumbent will be responsible for performing duties related to inmates' reentry and pre-release, including daily interactions with inmates at the prison. The incumbent will meet with inmates in person and telephonically to formulate release plans; communicate with inmates' families, sponsors, and residential program providers to establish viable plans, gather residential information, and coordinate and initiate pre-parole investigations; work with correctional staff to schedule pre-release meetings with inmates; and provide assistance and/or refer inmates to appropriate community programs, counselors, potential funding, and other resources. The incumbent will be required to appropriately represent the Division of Parole and Probation with correctional staff, the general public, and residential program representatives. THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE REQUIRED TO WORK WITH INMATES WITHIN THE LOVELOCK CORRECTIONAL CENTER AND MUST BE WILLING TO ACCEPT THIS WORK LOCATION AND INHERENT REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY INTO A CORRECTIONAL FACILITY AS A CONDITION OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT. THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE REQUIRED TO UNDERGO PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREENING FOR CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, social or behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or related field and one year of experience making eligibility determinations, researching and verifying information, maintaining case records, and performing casework services in a law enforcement, social or behavioral services environment; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and three years of experience making eligibility determinations, researching and verifying information, maintaining case records, and performing casework services in a law enforcement, social or behavioral services environment; OR one year of experience as a Parole & Probation Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
