Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.
Incumbents recommend and implement changes to work plans, program performance standards and objectives for providing services, and eligibility requirements as permitted by program regulations and guidelines; and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or a staff consisting of several students, volunteers and/or contract staff.
This recruitment is for new Program Officer 1 positions assigned to High Desert State Prison (HDSP), located in Indian Springs, Nevada and Florence McClure Women's Correctional Center (FMWCC), in Las Vegas, Nevada. This position will be responsible for overseeing the re-entry programming of approximately 120 inmates. This includes supervising staff; supervising inmates' programming activities within the unit; enforcing programming code of conduct; scheduling classes, groups and activities; teaching classes related to changing the mindset and assisting inmates in building skills that are useful for post-release; and processing paperwork related to inmates, which includes social security applications, birth certificate applications, personal identification documents, etc., case notes, filing, and creating reports. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or other discipline related to the program assignment; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of para-professional program support experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service which required the application of State and/or federal laws, policy and procedures; reviewing documents prepared by others for program compliance determinations; or preparing reports which summarize financial and statistical information; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

Experience assisting at risk population with social programs, education, training, or community resources. |
|
Experience collecting and maintaining data, goals or activities as it relates to at risk population. |
|
Experience related to the collection and maintenance of vital records.
|
|
The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
