The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located in the Nevada Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities (NGCDD) Office under the Directors Office of Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The incumbent facilitates the goals of the NGCDD, a federally funded program under the Administration on Intellectual/ Developmental Disabilities (AIDD). Responsibilities include: Provide technical assistance and guidance to self-advocacy and leadership projects/programs/groups. Serve as a liaison for person's w/IDD, government agencies, community representatives, government officials and the general public. Organize and attend educational community events statewide as identified in the NGCDD 5-year state plan. Conduct research studies, prepare comprehensive reports and develop recommendations for systems change to be approved by the NGCDD and/or NGCDD Executive Director. Under the direction of the Executive Director, serve as a spokesperson for the NGCDD to promote NGCDD 5-year state plan goals and objectives. Develop and implement disability leadership training programs. Review Federal and State legislation which may affect person's w/IDD. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of paraprofessional experience which included providing social services, medical assistance programs services, or health care services to the public and required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR two years of experience as a Family Services Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
