Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) has career opportunities for a Mental Health Counselor to work in our Child Welfare system. The position is assigned to the Winnemucca office.
This licensed Mental Health Counselor position's priority will be to provide direct clinical services, i.e. Intensive Family Services (IFS), crisis intervention, family counseling/therapy, group therapy and individual therapy on a case by case basis), complete assessments, provide specific therapeutic intervention training (i.e. Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Parent Management Training, Coping CAT, TFCBT, etc.) and psychoeducation in primarily home-based settings.
Staff provide in-home, family centered, intensive services including therapy/counseling, skill-building, supportive services, advocacy, clinical case management and mental health assessments (for children and adults) to complex, high risk children and families. Clinical Program staff within the Division provide diagnostic assessments and information to Child Welfare Workers for custody children needing Medicaid or a higher level of care; crisis intervention for IFS and non-IFS clients; placement disruption services; and case consultation services for other DCFS program staff.
*** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. ***
IFS does not replicate existing services and is not considered a mental health program, but rather a clinical child welfare service program designed to intervene quickly with families where safety threats have been identified and removal of children is imminent without effective preventative services.
