The Position
Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.
Under general supervision, incumbents perform journey level duties.
This position works within the Department of Administration's Enterprise IT Services Division, Agency IT Services Section's Help Desk unit and is located in Carson City, NV. The IT Technician 2 provides support to all State agencies. Incumbents working within the Help Desk are tasked with providing quality customer service by answering calls and providing one stop shopping for users by supporting desktop, network, hardware and software issues. Under direct supervision, this position will be trained to install, configure, monitor, and maintain Windows based desktop PCs, laptops, PDA phones, mobile hand-held devices, servers, network equipment, and peripherals across the entire state of Nevada. Incumbents will also learn how to fix PCs, monitor the network and assist with Help Desk user support. Travel may be possible when remote control tools won't solve a given issue. Agency IT Services provides support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Candidates must be willing to work various shifts that include nights and weekends and holidays. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent and three years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, one year of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
