GIS Analysts are responsible for designing, implementing, supporting and administering all aspects of a department's and/or division's enterprise geographic information system.
This Transportation GIS Analyst II represents the journey level in the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) GIS job series. This position is located within the Information Technology Division of the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), Carson City, NV. The incumbent will be an active member of NDOT IT's GIS team. The team is rolling out a standardized, enterprise GIS model, including Portal for ArcGIS, which will support various NDOT divisions. The incumbent will draw from experience to provide active involvement engaging key division personnel to design, modify, implement, administer and document spatial databases and GIS procedures within and possibly across the divisions. The incumbent will also be actively engaged in high level development, administration, and promotion of a data governance model supporting an effective buildout for the enterprise geodatabase. Ongoing duties include process diagraming, procedure documentation, and design of testing workflows to support implementation of new products or error troubleshooting.
While GIS data manipulation and web map development are handled outside the IT GIS team, the incumbent will provide direct assistance to the divisions through creating, publishing, optimizing, and monitoring multiple map, feature, and image services using ArcGIS Server Manager and REST service endpoints. The incumbent will provide administrative system support for NDOT's Linear Referencing System (LRS) using ESRI Roads and Highways, Workflow Manager and Data Reviewer. Ongoing duties include serving as subject matter expert on current GIS practices and escalating user support issues where appropriate. The incumbent will assist GIS users in creating and maintaining mobile field solutions including Collector for ArcGIS, Survey123 and Workforce.
In addition to working with NDOT GIS Data Stewards & GIS users, the incumbent will be working closely with NDOT IT staff members on GIS-related operations, including Desktop Support, Server, Network, Application Development and Project Management. ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop 10.5.1 is the standard client software used for the majority of NDOT GIS efforts, with ArcGIS Pro 2.1 growing in use. NDOT has 400+ GIS users and 20+ GIS Data Stewards. ESRI's SDE enterprise geodatabase and file geodatabase are the standard format for spatial data with Oracle Spatial also being used in various applications. ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online provide platform support.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in geographic information systems, geography, cartography or a closely related field which included coursework in geographic information systems and two years of progressively responsible professional GIS experience; OR an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in geographic information systems, geography, cartography or a closely related field which included coursework in geographic information systems and three years of progressively responsible professional GIS experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Transportation GIS Analyst I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
