The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbent performs engineering functions requiring analysis of diverse data, while exercising judgment which will impact daily operations and policy procedure implementation. Duties include independent on-site quality assurance reviews; reviewing plans and maintaining documentation to ensure contracted work is in compliance with policies and standards; developing construction specifications; providing technical support regarding construction methods and techniques; researching construction practices and technologies; assisting with the instruction of QA annual training classes; operating and maintaining specialized equipment. This position will also require up to 25% travel (via ground or air transportation) throughout the state and will require working variable shifts and days (including weekends and holidays). To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Examination
Application Evaluation Exam
The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

1) Describe in detail, including the number of years, your experience with inspection of highway related construction in regard to the following; a) earthwork or aggregate base or borrow, b) traffic control, c) electrical, d) drainage improvements, e) paving (Portland cement concrete or bituminous asphalt), f) major structures. Absence of this experience is not disqualifying.
2) Describe your experience, including the number of years, observing and/ or performing pavement smoothness measurement to include experience with inertial profiler measurements and /or California profilopraph measurements. Please include any experience ensuring equipment is properly calibrated, contractor measurement results are acceptable, and the contractor is following appropriate test method. 3) Describe your experience with the following software and how you utilized it in a business setting: a) Excel, b) Word, c) PowerPoint, d) Adobe Acrobat Pro, e) AASHTO Field Manager. Absence of this experience is not disqualifying.
4) Describe your experience, including the number of years, preparing technical reports in the following, a) construction field, b) engineering field. Absence of this experience is not disqualifying.
5) Are you willing to travel to remote locations throughout the State, often with overnight stays?
