The Position
Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is responsible for maintaining all property, equipment, structures and tools of the Ely seed warehouse. Incumbent must be willing and able to lift up to 60 pound bags of seeds in and out of vehicles in various outdoor weather both hot and cold. Incumbent will be responsible for input of seed orders, maintaining inventory of seed stocks at warehouse and needs of NDOW and partner groups for future seed needs. Position will require maintaining a current valid Nevada driver's license for transportation of equipment and seeds to restoration sites. Forklift experience is preferred but not required. Maintaining records on individual seeding projects and project database which includes fiscal, seed species, spatial nature of the seedings and other aspects. This position will be directed daily by the BLM Ely seed warehouse manager. Project documentation and reporting will be required for each individual project. compiles and reports on all survey and program work conducted during annual activates for inclusion in required state and federal reporting;develops and implements agreements, management strategies for wildlife habitats in cooperation with other State and Federal agencies. These duties require extensive hiking up and down non-trail developed grades exceeding 30%. In addition this position requires the ability to handle 10-50 pound backpacks throughout the course of a day's work. Travel will be required both in-state and out-of-state to project sites to deliver seeds, to seed collection sites, and occasional meetings relevant to seed warehouse projects.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and three years of professional wildlife management experience such as conducting research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects; OR two years of experience as a Biologist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations.
    Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.
    Specialized experience may be required and will be identified at the time of recruitment.
Special Requirements
    Statewide travel and outdoor work is required.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience with interpreting locations and/or navigating using topographic maps and a hand-held Geographic Positioning System (GPS).
    Experience and ability to work independently in the field for extended periods of time in remote locations in Nevada.
    Experience identifying, measuring, and analyzing vegetative communities.
    Experience in identifying, designing, calculating and implementing wildland seeding projects.
    Experience or ability to identify Great Basin plant species
    Ability to lift 60 pounds.
