JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Intermittent vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Agricultural Inspectors perform sampling and inspection of agricultural products at shipping point inspection facilities, and participate in pest control and noxious weed eradication; check and grade condition of fruits and vegetables, and assist plant pathologists and entomologists in the preparation of samples for analysis.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This recruitment will be used to fill seasonal positions that work within the Department of Agriculture, Division of Plant Industry Plant Pathology section and is located in Sparks, Nevada. The incumbent will be responsible for performing field inspections and surveys for plant diseases under the supervision of the plant pathologist. Incumbent will be required to travel to agricultural production areas, mainly in Lyon and Humboldt counties. Duties include inspecting garlic and onion crops for white rot disease, collecting garlic samples in the field, performing nematode extraction in the lab, and inspecting nurseries for diseases. Incumbent may be assigned to assist in other plant industry duties as required. Multiple appointments will be made from this recruitment. Some of the incumbents will be responsible for performing laboratory procedures for plant disease and nematode diagnosis under the supervisor of the plant diagnostician and the plant pathologist.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience in agricultural sciences or related sciences performing agriculture duties; OR one year of experience as an Agricultural Inspector I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination or education and experience.
Special Requirements
50% travel requirement.
Flexible and/or rotating shifts are required.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
