The Position
Auditors conduct audits on accounts, records, activities, operations and/or internal controls of individuals, business organizations, State agencies or other government jurisdictions subject to State taxation or regulation to ensure compliance with State and federal rules and regulations and legal requirements and/or proper safeguarding of agency funds.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services is recruiting for a vacancy located in the Budget and Statistics Unit at Central Office in Carson City. This position will serve as the in-charge auditor on performance, and/or financial audits and will be responsible for all phases of the audit. Responsibilities include developing policy/procedures related to the fiscal monitoring of sub-grantees; working with staff to recommend/develop new policies and procedures related to their area of expertise; ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal rules, laws and regulations, CFRs, agency programs and policies; maintaining and protecting operations by keeping information confidential; and conducting performance audits of independent contracts and fiscal monitoring of sub-grantees. This position is also responsible for establishing internal control procedures and maintaining related systems by updating audit programs and examining records, reports, operating practices, and documentation, and providing objective analysis of agency operations to improve effectiveness, reliability, and efficiency. The auditor will act as a liaison with state, federal or public auditors conducting audits of the Division and will attend all meetings related to a Division audit/review. Applicants should have strong analytical abilities and be proficient in both oral and written communications and have the ability to interpret federal and state regulations. Diplomacy, persuasiveness, and ability to work with others is essential. Experience in performance and/or financial audits and knowledge of auditing standards/techniques is also desirable. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which included 6 college credits in beginning accounting and/or auditing and 3 college credits in intermediate accounting and/or auditing, and two years of professional level auditing or accounting experience involving analyzing financial information and making recommendations based upon that analysis; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education, supplemented by 6 college credits in beginning accounting and/or auditing and 3 college credits in intermediate accounting and/or auditing, and four years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Auditor II in Nevada State service, which includes an additional 3 college credits in intermediate accounting and/or auditing; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which included 6 college credits in beginning accounting and/or auditing and 3 college credits in intermediate accounting and/or auditing.

    A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
The Examination

The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. In order to receive credit, the experience claimed MUST be documented in your application. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
1) Describe your auditing experience in the following areas: a) auditing business organizations; b) complex investigative "at risk" auditing; c) government auditing; d) tax auditing; and/or e) compliance/performance auditing.
2) Describe your accounting experience in the following areas: a) sales tax accounting; b) government accounting; c) private sector accounting; and/or d) payroll accounting/bookkeeping.
3) Describe your experience presenting evidence at administrative hearings.
4) Describe your lead-worker or supervisory experience.
5) Describe your level of completed education in either Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, or related educational field: a) Associates degree; b) Bachelor's degree; c) Master's degree; d) Certified Public Accountant. List the type of degree, issuing institution, and date degree was received.
