The Position
Mental Health Technicians supplement the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing direct client care for clients in a mental health facility.

APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *** Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services is currently recruiting for Mental Health Technicians (MHT) to under fill Forensic Specialist positions at Stein Forensic Hospital, a secure forensic facility/psychiatric hospital for offenders with mental disorders. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required to progress to a Forensic Specialist 1. Under direct supervision of the forensic staff, MHTs will assist in performing mental health and security duties with an emphasis on providing therapeutic treatment for clients to attain competency for criminal charges. Incumbents also assist in preparing clients for competency hearings and facilitate groups regarding legal processes; assist clients in understanding the nature and seriousness of charges that have been filed; monitor and assist as needed assigned clients with eating, bathing, shaving, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing and other basic activities of daily living; assist in transportation, movement and ambulation; and perform other duties as assigned.
To be considered for the position, candidates must pass the Peace Officers Standards Training (POST) Physical Fitness Test at the Applicant Screening Standards. More information on this requirement is available at www.post.nv.gov. MHT underfills will have one year to progress to a Forensic Specialist 1 position. This progression will occur with the recommendation of the appointing authority when minimum qualifications are met; eligibility requirements for appointment as a peace officer as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code are met; and the incumbent is performing satisfactorily. Stein Forensic Hospital is recruiting for all shifts. Working weekends and holidays is required and the positions are subject to call-back. Incumbent will be working an innovative variable schedule, with overtime after 40 hours per week. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience involving public contact which may have included providing care or guidance for children, elders or others; volunteer work in providing respite to caregivers; or leading youth groups; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    CPR certification is required within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and be free of active tuberculosis.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
