The Position
Professional Engineer Administrators are responsible for management of an assigned district, function or division in the Department of Transportation.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. This position is located within the Project Management Division in Carson City. Incumbent acts as Division Chief and is responsible for leading the division, administering the Pioneer Program, managing projects assigned to the division as a program, and establishing and administering the budget. Duties include planning, directing, and managing the staff and activities of a large, complex, and diverse division; performing administrator duties and professional engineering work; establishing policies for the division and contributing to the development of department policy; exercising executive control and final action on major engineering projects within department policy; determining work methods used to produce the desired results; interpreting laws, regulations, and policies; and overseeing program management. The Project Management Chief is held accountable for the efficiency and effectiveness of program implementation, long-range planning, expenditure of funds, and problem resolution. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and five years progressively responsible professional engineering experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity; OR one year of experience as an Administrator I, P.E. in Nevada State service; OR two years of experience as a Manager I, P.E., or Manager II, P.E. in Nevada State service; OR licensure and an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Any person registered as a Professional Engineer in another state must become registered as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months following the date of appointment and as a continuing condition of employment.
Special Requirements
    Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
