The Position
Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.
Incumbents receive training to be able to identify and decide how to resolve problems themselves or through appropriate referral; record calls using the help desk application; write work orders as used for change/problem management and resolve routine issues; change backup media; unlock accounts; reset passwords; and follow agency security and access procedures.
This position works within the Department of Administration's Enterprise IT Services (EITS) Division, Help Desk Unit and is located in Carson City, NV. This recruitment will be used to underfill an IT Technician 3. Automatic progression may occur upon the supervisor's approval and when the minimum qualifications of the higher level have been met. Incumbents in the Enterprise Help Desk group are tasked with providing quality customer service by answering calls and providing one stop shopping for users by supporting desktop, network, hardware and software issues. Additionally, under direct supervision, this position will be trained to install, configure, monitor, and maintain Windows based desktop PCs, laptops, PDA phones, mobile hand-held devices, servers, network equipment, and peripherals across the entire state of Nevada. Incumbents will also learn how to fix PCs, monitor the network and assist with Help Desk user support. Statewide travel of 25% is likely when remote control tools won't solve a given issue. The EITS Enterprise Help Desk provides 24x7x365 support, so candidate must be willing to work various shifts that include nights, weekends, and holidays.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent and three years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, one year of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Experience
    Experience in a customer service call center is required.
