The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to mentally ill and/or mentally and physically ill or disabled individuals, in an institution or outpatient setting.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is seeking applicants with a passion to make a difference in the lives of Nevada's Children! We currently have an opening for a Psychiatric Nurse 1 providing general or psychiatric nursing. Located in Sparks, Nevada at our Adolescent Treatment Center. The selected candidate will work closely with the Agency Medical Director to provide care to adolescents with emotional disturbances and mental health needs. The Psychiatric Nurse 1 will be responsible for various duties, including medication administration and management, record keeping of prescribed medications, and participation in multidisciplinary treatment teams. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work directly with youth and adolescents teaching basic living and life skills. This is a full time position with an anticipated variable work schedule of 4 10 hour shifts. It includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and one year of profession­al nursing experience; OR one year as a Registered Nurse I in Nevada State service caring for psychiatric or developmentally disabled patients; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
