The Position
Positions in this series supervise professional engineering associates, technical engineering staff, and/or engineering students; direct activities of assigned staff, organize personnel, equipment and materials, and delegate assignments; evaluate the performance of employees according to established policies and work performance standards; ensure accurate and timely completion of work assignments; and provide guidance and training.
Positions in this series supervise professional engineering associates, technical engineering staff, and/or engineering students; direct activities of assigned staff, organize personnel, equipment and materials, and delegate assignments; evaluate the performance of employees according to established policies and work performance standards; ensure accurate and timely completion of work assignments; and provide guidance and training. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. This position is located within District II, Utilities section in Reno. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating District II utility relocation, modification and/or installation of work; providing quality customer service to internal and external clients; designing, implementing, and managing to completion district contracts and special projects. Duties also include construction inspection; perform regular site reviews and implement field changes as required; process payments and participate in post project audits. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and two years of professional engineering experience; OR two years of experience comparable to the Staff I, Associate Engineer or the Supervisor I, Associate Engineer level.
Special Notes
    Employees in this class who are not licensed professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.
Special Requirements
    This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
The Examination
SUPVR 2, ASSOCIATE ENGINEER (06.211) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
1) Please describe your field experience, including the number of years, with the construction of roadway projects. If applicable, describe your utilities experience with the construction of roadway projects.
2) Describe your experience working on highway construction projects with: a) state, federal, local, etc. agencies; b) contractors; and/or c) utility companies.
3) Describe your experience, including the number of years, supervising technical engineering staff.
4) Please describe your experience in the following areas as it relates to the work on public roadways: a) Right-of-way; b) Environmental; c) Railroad; and/or d) Billboards.
5) Describe your experience in the preparation and use of the technical engineering construction plans and specifications.
