The Position
Mental Health Technicians supplement the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing direct client care for clients in a mental health facility.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is with Department of Public and Behavioral Health, Rural Clinics. The official worksite is in Pahrump, Nevada. The position provides rehabilitative mental health services under the direct and clinical supervision of a Qualified Mental Health Professional. Mental Health Technicians provide interventions designed to restore mental health recipients to their highest level of functioning by learning constructive cognitive and behavioral life skills and documents all services provided on progress notes that are directly related to treatment goals. The position provides positive reinforcement, modeling, operant conditioning and other training techniques under direct and clinical supervision. Additional duties include reporting significant behavioral and/or medical problems to the interdisciplinary team; participating in interdisciplinary team meetings; acting as a liaison between clinic/client and the community; receiving incoming crisis calls; protecting clients rights by demonstrating and understand the laws governing abuse/neglect of clients and HIPAA regulations; collecting and maintaining data to produce reports and maintain accurate records; transporting clients to/from appointments; re-integrating clients into the family and/or community; facilitating or co-facilitating individual and group sessions; and assisting clients and their families with accessing rehabilitative/support services. The anticipated schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience, two of which were paraprofessional experience in a hospital, institutional, residential, clinic or community setting providing care, treatment, training and supervision for individuals with mental illness or emotional disturbances. In addition, applicants must have attained valid mental health certification pursuant to NRS 433.279; OR one year of experience as a Mental Health Technician II or Developmental Support Technician II in Nevada State service and valid mental health certification pursuant to NRS 433.279.

    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled drugs.
