The Position
Developmental Specialists provide individual and group clinical, developmental and support services for individuals of all ages who have, or who may be at risk for, developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions, and social, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of Health and Human Services - Rural Regional Center in Mesquite, NV. This position is an underfill for a Developmental Specialist 3. The incumbent will autoprogress to the next level in the series upon meeting the minimum qualifications and upon appointing authority approval. Developmental Specialists work with children and adults with developmental disabilities or related conditions, their families and support teams to develop and coordinate the implementation of client treatment activities and facilitate achievement of identified goals for the specific developmental and behavioral management needs of each client. They oversee provider delivered services in residential living arrangements and jobs and day training programs, and provide case management services. Developmental Specialists conduct assessments and facilitate planning meetings to develop individualized support plans; complete face to face visits at home and work or school; coordinate and establish services contracts; monitor provision and quality of services; document all activities in the electronic record; make referrals to other agencies and provide crisis management services; submit and take action regarding incident reports and denial of rights. The mission of the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or a closely related field and one year of professional experience providing developmental, special education, intervention or treatment-oriented services for individuals who have or may be at risk for developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions; OR one year of experience as a Developmental Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education at or above a bachelor's degree and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting.
    Travel up to 50% of the time is required
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
