The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE PRIOR TO THE POSTED CLOSING DATE DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
This position is located with Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (NNAMHS) at Dini-Townsend Hospital in Sparks NV. The incumbent will provide oversight, support, education, leadership and accountability while supervising RN and Mental Health Technician (MHT) staff engaged in milieu activities, group presentations and therapeutic interactions, including the recognition and intervention required in both behavioral and medical emergencies. Care provided is a Trauma Informed, Person-Centered, Recovery Model program of active treatment for adults with severe mental illness in an inpatient setting. The incumbent will also direct and collaborate with community referral sources to ensure timely acceptance of patients for care; provide direct nursing care as needed during assigned shifts and participate in hospital administrative duties during after-hours periods and/or when senior administrative staff are not present in the Hospital. The incumbent reports directly to the DON to ensure provision of services and accountability of staff. This position may require working evenings, weekends and holidays.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience, two of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
