Conservation Staff Specialists assist in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures related to areas such as resource management, safety and training, fire management and policy management pertinent to the assigned area of natural resource management, preservation, conservation and protection.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced level work and may provide work direction to others.
Under general supervision, this position coordinates recreation and natural resource planning for the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program (EIP), as the Nevada Division of State Parks (NDSP) representative on the multi-disciplinary Nevada Tahoe Resource Team (NTRT). This position also supports NDSP's statewide recreation and natural resource planning efforts.
Day to day responsibilities include a wide range of professional and technical duties, including: program development; work program development, including schedules and budgets; project development, permitting, and implementation; regional planning, including coordination and collaboration with Federal, state and local stakeholders; grant submittal, management, and administration; and contract development and management. This position represents NDSP at meetings and hearings; establishes effective working relationships with a wide range of public and private partners; and provides interpretation and explanation of sometimes conflicting policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. Incumbents may be required to work varying hours and shifts.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, ecology, natural resource management, forestry, parks management, fire management or related field and two years of professional experience in a relevant resource management field that included assisting in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures; coordinating special grant programs and/or contracts; and coordinating training programs; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. |

Experience with GIS analysis and mapping is required.

Experience with environmental, land use, recreation, and/or natural resource planning, analysis, and management is required. |

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
