Highway Maintenance Supervisors supervise skilled and semi-skilled personnel engaged in restoring roadway surfaces and restoring or constructing slopes, shoulders, culverts, structures, fixtures and landscaping.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. This position is located within District II, Reno Maintenance Division. Incumbent will assist the Highway Maintenance Manager by supervising maintenance personnel; planning, coordinating, monitoring, and inspecting routine maintenance activities and major betterment projects; coordinating equipment, material, and resource needs; monitoring work progress and productivity of up to five maintenance crews including preparing, reviewing, and evaluating reports to track productivity, costs, resources, and equipment usage.
Incumbent will also work with department staff to identify upcoming betterment needs, participate in betterment reviews; assist in preparing budget estimates and project planning charts for upcoming maintenance seasons; assist district leadership with personnel issues and provide training, support, and guidance in employee evaluations and disciplinary actions. The incumbent will also assist maintenance personnel by responding to emergency situations from traffic control for all incidents, both natural and manmade, to removing debris in the travel lanes or similar unplanned events that require an immediate response to protect the public.
