The Position
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
The Nevada Division of Forestry ("NDF") Deputy Administrator of Operations is a senior leadership position within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The NDF Deputy Administrator of Operations serves as first assistant under the direct supervision of the State Forester Firewarden, and must have a working knowledge of the full mission and scope of the NDF. The position is responsible for the administrative oversight and coordination of each NDF program area, including forestry, natural resources, wildland fire management, aviation, and conservation camp operations to ensure the protection of forest, range and watershed resources in Nevada. The position also acts as a liaison between State, Federal and local agencies in the management of natural resources on state, private and public lands in Nevada. The incumbent must have a working knowledge of principles, practices and methods of effective natural resource management for forests, rangelands, and watersheds, wildland fire suppression, mitigation and prevention; federal, State and local governmental relationships and collaborative processes; and leadership principles and practices. The incumbent functions as a senior leader who directly manages, trains, supervises and evaluates the performance of subordinate supervisors. The incumbent develops policies and procedures, and allocates staff and resources to accomplish the NDF's mission, goals and objectives. The Deputy must maintain a working knowledge of the full NDF budget and fiscal operations, and must be able to draft testimony and provide oral presentations to the State Legislature as required. The NDF Deputy must be able to perform all duties of the State Forester Firewarden as requested and when the State Forester Firewarden is unavailable.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in forest, range or resource management or closely related field and six years of professional program management experience involving resource management and fire suppression, including two years of experience supervising professional staff; OR two years of experience as a Forestry Program Manager in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    Work requires travel throughout the State and occasional work on weekends and evenings.
    Positions will be assigned to perform either Fiscal Management or Operations Management duties which will be identified at the time of recruitment. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications of the identified assignment.
Special Requirements
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
The Examination

The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. 5) Describe your experience with Federal and State legislative development of bill draft requests and statutes.
6) Describe your experience with plant material to include nursery and seed bank programs.
7) Describe your experience, including the number of years, managing inmate work programs.
