Welders plan and lay out projects and join metal components together using gas welding, arc welding, soldering and brazing processes to fabricate, strengthen and/or repair components, equipment and fixtures.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is located at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs, NV. Under general supervision, this position plans and coordinates materials, lays out work, and supervises inmates and staff fabricating and repairing structures and equipment throughout the facility using a variety of welding techniques. The operation of various machines such as drill, grinder, band saw, plasma cutter, and chop saw is required. Skills in welding stainless steel and aluminum are preferred.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Completion of an approved welding apprenticeship training program followed by one year of journey level welding experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
Welding certification issued by the American Welding Society (AWS) is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Incumbent is required to furnish their own tools.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
