Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position works within the Department of Administration's Enterprise IT Services (EITS) Division, Mainframe/Operations unit in Carson City. Primary duties for the incumbent include monitoring IBM mainframe (z/OS) and UNIX batch production, modifying z/OS and UNIX job schedules, making basic code changes to jobs, along with using AFP and impact printers for output processing. The incumbent will also be responsible for monitoring all equipment housed within the EITS Computer Facility and notifying EITS Mainframe, UNIX, Network, and Mechanical sections along with other State of Nevada agencies of software and hardware failures. Travel up to 25% of the time may be required.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, three years of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR (for positions in the Network Operations & Support specialty ONLY) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of IT work experience in the upgrade or replacement of software and hardware components on networked workstations; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
Experience working as an Operator in a Mainframe Operations environment is required.
Experience with UNIX or LINUX commands is required.
