The Position
Retirement Examiners review member accounts to determine if members meet eligibility criteria and/or estimate retirement benefits by applying and interpreting eligibility criteria and applicable policies, rules and guidelines.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Retirement Examiners process applications for service, disability, and survivor benefits including verifying and calculating service credit, benefit estimates, purchase of service costs, and repayment of withdrawn contributions. Other duties include providing group and individual counseling services as well as provide information and assistance over the phone and/or written correspondence to members and retirees and designing and giving presentations regarding retirement in order to meet the needs of a specific group.***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Associate's degree in public or business administration or related field, and one year of paraprofessional experience which included public contact and customer service, financial recordkeeping, and interpreting and applying rules and regulations; OR two years of experience as a Retirement Technician in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Examination
Application Evaluation Exam
The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
